Adventure Series for the younger crowd: Heroes in Training

Young readers who like adventure will devour the Heroes in Training series by Joan Holub and Suzanne Williams, which are available in the Library’s collection and also as downloadable e-books.  Full of excitement and adventure, the reader follows Zeus on a hilarious and unexpected journey to find his destiny.

We meet Zeus in the cave where he grew up.  Raised by a goat, a nymph, and a bee, Zeus was a fairly normal kid—he just seemed to be struck by lightning a lot!  Zeus’ life changes when he is kidnapped by evil King Titan’s soldiers.  While trying to save his own life, he discovers a pet lightning bolt, which has awesome powers in Zeus’ hands!  Will Zeus and the lightning bolt be able to free themselves from the King and his soldiers?  And then will Zeus be able to return the lightning bolt to its rightful owner?  You will definitely want to read this book to find out!

This creative introduction to Greek Mythology is simple and funny enough to hold the attention of younger readers who are not yet ready to read the more advanced Percy Jackson and the Olympian series by Rick Riordan.  Joan Holub and Suzanne Williams also wrote The Goddess Girls series, which may appeal to readers wanting even more mythology.
