Our Heroes' Tree 2013 and Hope for Heroes Donation Station at the Library

Our Library partners with the Indiana State Library to present Our Heroes' Tree, a national program founded to recognize and honor the sacrifices of our current military personnel, veterans, and deceased service members.  

Create an ornament honoring a service member and share it on our tree through the holidays. It is located in the Youth Service Department. As a way to honor our heroes' service, stop by and look at the photos and stories on these ornaments with your children.

The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library is a drop-off station for Hope for Heroes: Winter Warm-Up for Homeless Veterans, a project of the ESA Kappa Theta Chapter of Zionsville. You can help make winter a little warmer for United States Veterans who are homeless or at-risk.

Donations will be accepted in the Youth Services Department from now through December 15. The items will be distributed to veterans through the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation.

Jeans (size 40 and up)
Khaki pants (size 34-40)
Thermal Underwear
Underwear/Undershirts
Socks
Gloves

Personal Care Items:
Toothbrushes & Paste Deodorant
Shaving Supplies
Feminine Care Products

All items should be new.

Hope for Heroes!

Since the beginning of November, our Heroes’ Tree has been bright with ornaments displaying military Heroes. The Heroes’ Tree recognizes the sacrifices of military members, whether they are currently serving, a veteran, or deceased. Our tree currently has ten heroes, but if you are interested in making a handmade ornament for a veteran you admire come to the Library! You can use materials from home or you can use Library materials to make an ornament. Feel free to share a story about your hero through your ornament. Last year we had beautiful hand-carved wooden ornaments; there is no limit on how much love and creativity you can put into your ornament!

This year, the Library is also a drop-off point for HOPE for HEROES. From now until December 22, we are collecting donations for United States Veterans in the greater Indianapolis area who are homeless.

Items requested: stocking caps, long underwear, gloves, heavy socks, underwear undershirts, hand/foot warmers, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, disposable razors, shaving cream (all items should be new)

You can drop off any donations near the Heroes’ Tree on the first floor.
