Banned Books Week!

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Banned Books Week, which will be celebrated from September 30−October 6, 2012.  For interesting excerpts on why books have been banned or challenged, you might consider checking out the American Library Association’s timeline of banned books.

The ALA has also compiled a list of frequently challenged books of the 21st century.  You may or may not be surprised to see that Captain Underpants made that list several times!

Bridge to Terabithia is another frequently challenged book.  I read this book as a young adult and I still have vivid images of the story that fill my mind; no other book has ever stretched my imagination as far as that book!

Aren’t we grateful for the opportunity to read!
