Where Did Pilates Go?

Are you a Pilates enthusiast?  Then you’ve noticed that our Pilates books and DVDs are not in their usual places.  Don’t despair!  The Pilates Method now has its own number in the Dewey Decimal System.   Books are now at 613.7192.  DVDs can be found at DVD 613.7192.

If you are curious about the Pilates Method, we can help.  In addition to our collection of books and DVDs, we are offering an Introduction to Pilates class led by a certified Pilates instructor.  This class will be held on Tuesday, September 30th at 2:00 pm.  There will be a brief introduction to Joseph Pilates, the creator of the method.  We will discuss the benefits and the core concepts.  Also, what’s the difference between Yoga and Pilates?

After this discussion, we will put the concepts to practice by going through an introductory session of mat Pilates.  This class will not be too strenuous, but will give you a good idea whether the Pilates Method is right for you.  Be sure to wear comfortable clothing, and bring a mat or towel, as we will be on the floor.

Now that you know where Pilates items can be found, we will end our session by presenting some of the books and DVDs that the library has available for you to borrow. Right now you can find some of these items on display across from the main staircase on the 2nd floor of the library.

To find our full collection of items about the Pilates Method, look for shelf cards with the "Pilates Girl" pictured above on our book and DVD shelves  at - you know where: 613.7192.
