Put a Poem in Your Pocket!

April is National Poetry Month. This year, the library is observing Poem in Your Pocket Day on Thursday, April 24th. Leading up to this day, we have a Poetry Station where you can:
  • Make a Poem - Create a poem easily with our Rebus poem activity. Or, if you wish, create an Acrostic Name poem with your own name. We have worksheets available for more complicated poems.
  • Leave a Poem - Our Pocket Poem bulletin board is anxiously awaiting your poems! Write your poem on one of our cards and stick your poem in one of our pockets.
  • Take a Poem - Take one of our poems or take a creation of someone else! If you want a published creation, we have lots of poetry books at the ready for you to jot down your favorite lines, along with the poet's name, of course!
On April 24th, some of your librarians will be out in the community handing out poems. You can do the same whereever you are: give them to your neighbors, classmates, teachers, coaches,...you name it!

Handing a poem to someone makes them smile!

Join our efforts,
Spreading cheer,
Far and near.

A little poem can mean so much
To improve the day of one who needs the touch
Of the gift of words.
