Add the Library to Your List of Friends

Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes at Library book sales? Want to have access to the books on sale before everyone else? Do you love the Library and want to help it in any way you can, big or small? We have the perfect opportunity for you. Come to the annual meeting of the Friends of the Library on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 10am, and find out how you can become part of the reason the Library is able to offer so much. Friends of the Library are VIPs -very important people- who help to ensure that the Library is the wonderful place it is. Friends of the Library are why the Library is able to provide many of the programs we offer for all ages, year round, including a presentation at this meeting by Traders Point Creamery with sample tastings of their fresh, organic raspberry yogurt and chocolate milk. Royal Wedding

On April 29, Catherine Middleton will marry Prince William in a ceremony at Westminster Abbey. William and Kate: A Royal Love Story by Christopher Andersen is a mesmerizing account of the "most written about, gossiped about, admired, and envied young couple of their generation." (Anderson is no stranger to famous pairs, having chronicled the marriages of Barack and Michelle Obama, George and Laura Bush, and Jack and Jackie Kennedy.) William and Kate can be found in the Library's "New" biographies section.

The Royal Wedding is the official website for the upcoming nuptials. Anglophiles may also want to visit The British Monarchy for facts about Her Majesty the Queen, the current Royal Family, castles, a history of the British monarchy, and yes, even royal pets.

For something lighter, consider the memoir, Someday My Prince Will Come: True Adventures of a Wannabe Princess, by Jerramy Fine, an American girl on a mission--to marry a prince.

A Part-Time Summer Job at our Circulation Desk …

… may be just what you’re looking for!

The Library is in need of temporary summer help in our Circulation Department. If you can work 20 hours a week, with varying shifts during the day, evening and Saturdays, and enjoy helping people, this may be the job for you. If selected, you will work at our Circulation Desk assisting customers as they check in and checkout materials, register for Library cards, and pay fines and fees. We ask that you have a high school diploma or GED and be available to work throughout the summer.
A full job description is available here. You can also print off a job application and bring it to the Library during regular hours.
If you have any questions about the position, please contact Shawn Parker at 317-968-9239 or shawnp@zionsville.lib.in.us.

National Poetry Month

The usual image that comes to mind when I think of someone reading poetry is one of stillness and quiet—usually a solitary figure, seated under an oak tree or nestled in wild flowers on a sunny day with the occasion cloud drifting by. So entranced and connected to the words that fill the page that a gentle, serene smile lingers on their face and the world around them disappears...

Or experience poetry another way—your way. Since April is National Poetry Month, celebrate it, read it, write it, and experience it on your own or with others. Why not join us at the library on Tuesday, April 19th at 6:30pm when we host the Village Poets. Mary Gillim, Donna Monday, Bruce Brush and Miriam Nidiffer will help us celebrate Poetry Month with a poetry reading. Who knows, you may be inspired to write your own!

See you at the library!
